BEDA 1: April Fools History

0

Hello everyone

This is my first blog of April. Yes today is April 1st. It is also April fools Day, the day marked as practical jokes day on your friends, family, ennemies, neighbours or send them on fool's errand. ;) In which the aim is to embarrass the gullible.

Did you know that April was was counted the first day of the year in France, when it was changed to January 1 some people stayed with April 1, those who did were called "April fools" and were taunted by their neighbours.

I can honestly say I personally did not know that, never did any research on it.

In french is it called "poisson d'avril", the origin is the same as april fools but I believe the term poisson d'avril comes from the custom that kids stuck a paper fish to their peers back without them knowing so that it would make everyone laugh that he/she is walking around all day, as a fool, not realizing why people are laughing.

Basically it is about people making fun, or playing pranks, to the ones who don't accept reality or see it differently.

Though I don't agree that we should prank people who see things differently because we are all diffrent we shouldn't just try and fit in to the same mold as everyone else, we each have our own personalities, opinions and ideas. I don't like that this would be encouraging everyone to think alike as sheeps doing the same thing, thinking the same thing.

Anyways this is my first blog for BLOG EVERY DAY APRIL.

See you tomorrow.

Blog and Vlog Every Day April Initiative

0

Hello everyone

The other day I was just on youtube, watching some videos and came across this project or initiative rather called: "vlog every day april".

It was started by Maureen Johnson, she is an author, I know her because she wrote a short story as part of a book in which John Green (author of looking for alaska, paper towns and an abundance of katherines) who is a new favourite author of mine as well as a favourite vloggerand nerdfighter. Check out youtube.com/vlogbrothers.

She basically started this for herself, as a way to blog more and not make any excuses why she has no time to blog anymore. And a youtuber named nerimon thought was a great idea and started the Vlog Every April project saying he was going to take part in this initiative.

I also think it is an amazing idea so I have decided to follow in maureen johnson and nerimon's footsteps and take the challenge of making a vlog every day for the month of april.

Now I don't guarantee the vlogs being amazing, or long. They might be just a short little video sayign why today is awesome, because i have been thinking for a long time to make videos every day and finding ONE thing in my day that I could say is awesome.

If you think about it it can be quite beneficial, let's say you are having an aweful day at work and out of the blue someone you like and care about a lot sends you an email, tells you a joke that makes you laugh a lot, or decide to treat yourself to your favourite food, etc. Vlogging about it every day and saying this is why today is awesome can make you feel better in a second, don't you think?

American humorist poet: John Godfrey Saxe

John Godfrey Saxe

A year or possibly two ago, I read the Lemony Snicket book serie and funny how one can read one book and find found much more than an amazing story. Awww Mr. Snicket you are a genius making me discover John Godfrey Saxe (1816-1887) and american humorist poet.

I googled the name and came across some of his work, here is one about three blind men and an elephant. The Blind Men and the Elephant", is a fable that was told in India many years ago. It is a good warning about how our sensory perceptions can lead to misinterpretations.

Blind Men and the Elephant
(by John Godfrey Saxe)
Six blindmen touching an elephant.
It was six men of Indostan
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation
Might satisfy his mind
The First approached the Elephant,
And happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,

At once began to bawl:
“God bless me! but the Elephant
Is very like a wall!”
The first blind man of six blind men feels the side of the elephant and interprets it as a wall.
The Second, feeling of the tusk,
Cried, “Ho! what have we here
So very round and smooth and sharp?
To me ’tis mighty clear
This wonder of an Elephant
Is very like a spear!”
The second blind man of the six blind men feels an elephant tusk and interprets the elephant to be like a spear.
The Third approached the animal,
And happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
Thus boldly up and spake:
“I see,” quoth he, “the Elephant
Is very like a snake!”
The third blind man of the six blind men touches the elephant's trunk and interprets it to be a snake.
The Fourth reached out an eager hand,
And felt about the knee.
“What most this wondrous beast is like
Is mighty plain,” quoth he;
“ ‘Tis clear enough the Elephant
Is very like a tree!”
The fourth blind man of the six blind men touches the elephant's leg and mentally visualizes it to be a tree.
The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear,
Said: “E’en the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most;
Deny the fact who can
This marvel of an Elephant
Is very like a fan!”
The fifth blind man of the six blind men touches the elephant's ear and imagines it to be a fan.
The Sixth no sooner had begun
About the beast to grope,
Than, seizing on the swinging tail
That fell within his scope,
“I see,” quoth he, “the Elephant
Is very like a rope!”
The sixth blind man of the six blind men touches the elephant's ear and interprets it to be a fan.
And so these men of Indostan
Disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion
Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right,

And all were in the wrong!

Moral:

So oft in theologic wars,
The disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance
Of what each other mean,
And prate about an Elephant
Not one of them has seen!
The elephant composition as the blindmen described it.

Remember the Smurfs (or les stroumphs)?

If you remember watching the smurfs growing up, well last monday at soccer someone inspired me to create a new smurf.

Curly smurf or stroumph frisé. Could also be Jamaican smurf as he seems to have dreads. hehe
Take a look!

I found this like google meme game started on youtube by Hank Green of the vlogbrothers. (http://www.youtube.com/vlogbrothers) Check out their vlogs, they are hilarious btw.

Normally I don't really play along but the results were hilarious and some suprisingly accurate, almost as if google knows me so well.

Here are the results I got:

Nancy needs A VACATION! (YES! Pleaaaaaaaaaaaase.)

Nancy looks like she’s having fun (Well yes, when I am doing something I love)

Nancy says relax

Nancy wants, Nancy gets (How did google search know I was an only child?

Nancy does it all.
Or
Nancy does it again.

Nancy hates school (Not really, I love school. Yeah I can be weird sometimes I know.)

Nancy asks you to send her a cheque for $25 (Hey, if google says it, it must be right. Come on get to it! Kidding.)

Nancy likes to "hand code" her HTML for greater control (Darn dreamweaver sometimes adds so much garbage code that one has to.)

Nancy eats sushi (Oh Yeah! Sushi is made of awesome!)

Nancy wears short shorts (Well not in this weather but will in the summer)

Nancy loves to daydream and to live in her own world of fantasies. (Yes that is true. hehe)

Nancy is simple web site builder, using just four simple commands to weave fragments of HTML, CSS, Javascript and whatever else you like into a web site

Nancy borrows a line from Michelle Obama, and says that for the first time in her life, she's proud to be a woman

Nancy makes us all feel good about what we are doing! What a joy to work with Nancy (Hey I didn’t say it, Google did! It MUST be true.)

Nancy cares she cares and takes pride in doing the very best job that she can do (Always)

Nancy pretends to be a sincere person and she is far from being that (NOT TRUE AT ALL, I am a sincere person and I hate people who pretend and aren't true so I would not pretend)

Nancy fears she'll never meet her deadline (Oh yes, especially with all those CBLs and SLMs we have to build getting the content last minute)

Nancy acts closer to 13 or 14 (Well, yeah sometimes, I am a kid at heart, so what, got a problem with that, lol)

Nancy reminds me of the woman on SNL a few years back who always seemed to parody Tori Spelling (Really?)

Nancy plays hard to get (Well, sometimes it can be a good thing.)

Try it, it is fun. Just simply replace [your name] by your actual name in the google search.
